Going to the movies is almost a national pastime for Americans, and if you wear hearing aids, you don’t have to worry about missing out on this fun activity.
When you first start losing your hearing, the first thing most people worry about is that they won’t be able to participate in some of the things they’ve always loved.
This fear causes them to withdraw, and often they don’t go out with friends or to public events like they use to.
Once you get in the habit of not going to social events, even when you get your hearing aids, it’s easier to just keep using your hearing loss as an excuse to not participate.
You don’t have to do that! With the right hearing aid for you, you can resume normal activities and not have to worry about missing a thing.
Here are a few ideas to help you hear your favorite flicks better than ever at the theater.
- Wear the hearing aids.
That sounds like a no-brainer, but it’s really important to wear your hearing aids if you want to hear well.
- Bring a pair of noise-canceling headphones.
These make a HUGE difference in helping you better hear dialogue. They cut out the dull background roar that can make it difficult to hear what’s being said.
- Ask the theater what devices they have to assist.
Many theaters offer rear-window captioning or eyeglasses that display captions for the movies. Both ways it’s just for you to see and won’t bother those around you. If your theater doesn’t have those options, they should still have a personal listening device that many hearing devices can be plugged directly into.
You do NOT have to miss out the fun of going to the movies with those you love.
